Acworth After Zeta
Plenty of people in Acworth started thinking about Tree Service on October 29, 2020. That morning the remnants of Hurricane Zeta crossed north Georgia, and nearly a million people in metro Atlanta lost power. In Acworth, a large oak was uprooted and fell on a mobile home, killing a man inside. Most tree failures are less tragic, but that storm made the point: a big tree close to where people sleep deserves a hard look before the next storm. Elite Tree Service Marietta inspects, prunes and removes trees across Acworth, and we give you a written estimate before any work begins.
Two lakes, one wind problem
Acworth sits on the southeastern banks of Lake Acworth and Lake Allatoona. Lake Allatoona covers about 12,010 acres behind a dam the Corps of Engineers finished in 1949, and Lake Acworth was created by a second dam in the 1950s. Open water gives wind a long run with nothing to slow it. Trees at the edge of a wooded lot facing the water, or ones left standing alone after clearing, take that wind directly. They often grow lopsided toward the side with light, which leaves their weight hanging over the slope or over the house.
Lakefront slopes and the shoreline
Many lots near the lakes slope steeply to the water. Felling a tree downhill on a slope is risky because logs roll. We usually take trees like that down in sections and lower the pieces. Land along the Allatoona shoreline is often federal property managed by the Corps of Engineers. Don't cut anything on that strip unless you have confirmed in writing that you are allowed to. We work only on your side of the line.
What the city will and won't pick up
Acworth's sanitation rules, under Section 78-8 of the city code, allow tied bundles of brush and limbs up to 4 feet long, with no limb thicker than 4 inches. Leaves and clippings go in bags. Dirt, mulch and rocks aren't collected. That covers ordinary pruning debris you cut yourself, but not a removal. When we take a tree down, we haul off the wood, chip the brush and leave the yard raked.
A town rebuilt after 1864
Sherman's army burned Acworth on November 13, 1864, and only 12 homes and one church survived. Most of the town's older houses date from the rebuilding that followed. Big hardwoods on those lots are often as old as the houses, and their roots run under walks, foundations and old brick. On lots like that we don't just ask whether a tree should come down. We also consider whether grinding the stump would damage anything nearby, and sometimes leaving the stump low and intact is the better choice.

Acworth Questions
Can you remove trees on the strip between my yard and Lake Allatoona?
Only if you have written permission from whoever owns that land, often the Corps of Engineers. Without that, we work only on your property. We can prune limbs that hang over your yard if the cuts don't harm the tree.
Will Acworth pick up the branches if I cut them myself?
Yes, if they are tied in bundles no longer than 4 feet and no limb is thicker than 4 inches. Bigger wood from a removal is something we haul away.
A tree came down on my line during a storm. Who do I call first?
Call your electric provider first. For Acworth Power customers, that's (770) 974-5233. Stay clear of the tree and the wire. Once the line is made safe, we can remove the tree.
My oak is leaning more toward the lake than it used to. Is that serious?
A lean that increases is a warning sign, especially on a slope or in wet soil. Look for cracked soil or lifted roots on the side away from the lean, then call us to look at it.
